Factions

This contains a brief overview of the 4 largest factions in 2048. Most civvies do not belong to a faction and merely follow and trust the United Government.

United Government Logo

United Government (and associated people/companies) - After the breakdown of the UN in 2031, and in the face of nuclear apocalypse the ruling families from China, Saudi Arabia, Russia, United Europe, and the United States of America drew together an agreement to create peace by forcing their children to marry and bear children. This became the (unofficially termed behind closed doors) Royal Family of United Earth. While elections for all United Government officials still takes place, only members of the Royal Family have any chance of being elected Supreme Leader. Other members of the Royal Family are generally placed as advisors/department heads to ensure the smooth management of all parts of the economy. Family Members of anyone elected to be part of the United Government are known to live opulent lifestyles. However only the lower levels of government are able to show their lifestyle on social media for their security. The highest levels of government live in citadels floating through the earths atmosphere, safe from the poor air quality and weather systems on the surface.

Children of X Logo

Children of X - Initially a group formed to protest the imprisonment of Robyncape (Evelyn Moore) who was being tried as an adult for the operation of a hardware repair business in 2032. Soon after it was labelled as a terrorist group and most members either renounced their affiliation or went into hiding. After her release, Robyncape was contacted by the organizations leaders and they began work to turn the group into a cult for the decentralization of mandatory technologies. The Children of X are known to encourage terrorist activity such as rerouting electricity from power stations, hacking into government servers, and broadcasting on the emergency frequencies. In their words, they engage in these activities to show the vulnerability of centralized systems and move the world towards a safer, freer, and fairer world. Members of the cult use a special dapp to find/cooperate with other members when they need their assistance without relying on a central repository to evade the United Government.

Other associated groups: V (Underground clothing company that produces tech infused clothes which help hide them from the government), 1 Per Cents (Gang that offer a variety of services through their Grand Bazaar such as hacking tools, smuggling, etc.)

The Community - A decentralized network of mostly homeless/offgrid people with no known creator. When the homeless issue reached a level where most were forced to live around nuclear waste facilities, the United Government decided to make it illegal to live on the streets. This was done, "to protect the safety and sovereignty of land owners globally and will be penalized by a minimum of 10 years." At this point the members of the Community exploded as people tried to find safe houses in order to stay alive. Today the community still offers the best safe refuge for people who come across hard times and is mostly joined by war boars, replicants, and other marginalized groups.

Other associated groups: Greens (An association of people who believe in off the grid living. They are anti-cybernetics and want to focus on combatting global warming in more permanent ways. Although most are sympathetic to the plights of war boars, conflicts sometimes arise due to them being perceived as soulless mutations of nature. They all change their last name to Green to become part of the family.)

Followers of the Enlightened - The Enlightened are a group of the most popular social media influencers who banded together to promote the same products and increase their bargaining power with companies. Their online store contains a variety of merchandise, much of it known to not actually perform it's designed purpose and merely end up in the trash due to the difficulty of returns. FotE are usually Civvies/Joneses that idolize and desire to be like their favourite influencer. Frequently this group will be mobilized by the influencers to spread disinformation, push United Government agendas, and as secret police.
